2015 Marching Band Summer Schedule

Below is the long awaited arrival of the 2015 summer marching band dates. This year we will implement something called a “mini-camp.” This implementation is to reduce weekly summer commitment and promote complete attendance over the course of the summer. This allows two things:
1.) A wider break in the summer free of band commitment.
2.) Results in more rehearsal time. This means two things–a happier and more trained band.

Here are the dates/times (all have been added to the calendar):
Intro Rehearsal #1: Tuesday, May 19, 5:30-8 PM
Intro Rehearsal #2: Tuesday, May 26, 5:30-8 PM
Intro Rehearsal #3: Tuesday, June 2, 5:30-8 PM
Mini-Camp #1: June 9-11, 5:30-8 PM
Independence Day Parade, Fairfax, VA (Tentative), July 4.
Mini-Camp #2: July 21-23, 12-9 PM (Band camp schedule, bring own dinner)
Band Camp Week #1: July 27-30, 12-9 PM (Dinner is provided)
Band Camp Week #2: August 3-7, 12-9 PM (Dinner provided)
Band Camp Potluck Dinner August 7th 5 PM

In the week following band camp we launch into our fall weekly rehearsal schedule:
August 11-13: Tuesday-Thursday 3:30-6:30 PM

I know this looks like a lot (especially to our prospective members). However, this is a typical marching band schedule for bands all across the country and compared to last summer only equates to less than a day more of rehearsal time. I do my best to get the schedule out early in order for families to plan accordingly. It is expected that members attend all rehearsal dates/times. Marching band counts as a 0.5 credit course and attendance is taken into account for grading. A list of excused/unexcused absences is available in the SMCPS student handbook.
